1. Over/During the weekend – Over/During the weekend means that the same thing as during the weekend.
e.g., We started packing up our apartment over the weekend. √
e.g., I promise I will call you over the weekend. √
e.g., We flew down to Miami over the weekend. √
2. On/At the weekend – The meaning of On the weekend (American English)/At the weekend (British English) is similar to the meaning of over/during the weekend, although it is not used quite as often.
e.g., The excitement started to build on the weekend. √
e.g., The excitement started to build at the weekend. √
e.g., The excitement started to build over the weekend. √
e.g., I am going to set aside an hour on the weekend to do laundry. √
e.g., I am going to set aside an hour at the weekend to do laundry. √
e.g., I am going to set aside an hour over the weekend to do laundry. √
e.g., Would you wear it to go jogging on the weekend. √
e.g., Would you wear it to go jogging at the weekend. √
e.g., Would you wear it to go jogging over the weekend. √
3. On (the) weekends/At weekends – The meanings of on (the) weekends (American English)/At weekends (British English) is about every weekend. Weekend is mostly used in singular form. However, it can be used in its plural form (weekends) when we are referring to a number of different weekends over a period of time.
e.g., They go windsurfing at weekends. (every weekend) √
e.g., They go windsurfing on weekends. (every weekend) √
4. Last/Next/Each/Every/This/That weekend – We do not use definite article before last/next/each/every/this/that.
e.g., We went to the beach last weekend. √
e.g., We went to the beach
last the weekend.
